Weblog

Hello,
My name is Lisa Skomp. I am the Owner/Broker of Cozy Cove Realty and Marina on Lake Nottely in Blairsville, GA. A native of Indiana and graduate of Indiana University, I moved to this area about 31 years ago. I know why you want to own property in the mountains, I am so fortunate to live and work in such a fantastic environment. Although we don't have much time to relax on the lake, I can see it from my office every morning.
I appreciate you taking a minute to stop by and read my Blog.

NORTH GEORGIA ZIPLINE TOUR

North Georgia Canopy Tours will offer two zipline courses starting in April 2010. There will be a 2 hour tour that will feature seven ziplines, two sky bridges, nature hikes and a final dual zip of 700 feet over a pond.

In May there will be a 3 hour Tour with eleven ziplines and it will end with  two zips over the North Oconee River, the longest zip on the property.

If you ever have the opportunity to do a zipline tour it is wonderful. Our Cozy Cove Family had that opportunity. Leaving Blairsville GA and traveling to Costa Rica we ziplined through the rainforest. It was an exciting adventure.

Now you don't have to travel so far it is right here in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains.

NORTH GEORGIA NETWORK RECEIVES $33 MILLION FOR BROADBAND

North Georgia Network Cooperative (NGN) has been awarded more than $33 million in federal stimulus funds to construct an ultra-high speed fiber optic network throughout northeast LACE w:st="on">GeorgiaLACE>. NGN is a new nonprofit cooperative organized by county development authorities, LACENAME w:st="on">NorthLACENAME> LACENAME w:st="on">GeorgiaLACENAME> LACENAME w:st="on">CollegeLACENAME> and LACE w:st="on">LACETYPE w:st="on">StateLACETYPE> LACETYPE w:st="on">UniversityLACETYPE>LACE>, Blue Ridge Mountain EMC, and Habersham EMC to improve services available to business and residential consumers throughout the region.>>

Expected to be completed over the next two years, this regional fiber optic network will traverse a 260-mile corridor through several rural north LACE w:st="on">GeorgiaLACE> mountain communities. The announcement that a $33 million stimulus grant was awarded to North Georgia Network (NGN) was made during an unprecedented visit from U.S Vice-President Joe Biden to LACE w:st="on">North GeorgiaLACE> on Thursday, December 17. This project was enabled through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which will support $2 billion worth of similar project announcements over the next 75 days, $182 million of that in 18 broadband projects across 17 states.>>

The project will have the potential to serve more than 9,000 businesses, 42,000 households and 367 anchor institutions traversing twelve (12) LACE w:st="on">North GeorgiaLACE> counties. The network will directly pass some 245 county and city government facilities, schools, post-secondary higher education institutions, and hospitals.>>

The project’s focus is to stimulate and support a new technology-enabled economy. By improving local broadband access, the rural communities now relying on tourism and lower-skilled jobs can support digital age businesses and attract higher quality jobs.>>

A new non-profit cooperative, NGN plans to build 135 miles of new fiber optics and connect existing fiber spans through this grant along with $6.3 million in private and community-based commitments. Local funding is provided from the four participating counties of Dawson, Lumpkin, White and Union, LACENAME w:st="on">NorthLACENAME> LACENAME w:st="on">GeorgiaLACENAME> LACENAME w:st="on">CollegeLACENAME> and LACE w:st="on">LACETYPE w:st="on">StateLACETYPE> LACETYPE w:st="on">UniversityLACETYPE>LACE>, Habersham EMC and Blue Ridge Mountain EMC.>>

Discussing the announcement of the grant award, Blue Ridge Mountain EMC’s General Manger, Joe Satterfield, said, “This presents an extraordinary opportunity for the people of LACE w:st="on">North GeorgiaLACE> and the region as a whole. The NGN positions us to compete for new economic development prospects that we never before could have attracted, will create new jobs, and allow us to provide our communities with a broader spectrum of advanced services. We can envision new data centers, telemedicine specialties, and other clean, IT-oriented opportunities becoming a reality. Blue Ridge Mountain EMC members will benefit from improved reliability of our existing broadband services, and will enjoy more competitive pricing for these services. Additionally, NGN will enable us to provide a more comprehensive level of support for our electric distribution system, creating added stability and security of our grid. We are very pleased to be a key partner helping drive the NGN project forward.”

Painting Your Home to Sell

Painting is a great way to liven up your home. Prep work can make a huge difference in the final result.
1. Get the surface ready. You want the paint to go on smoothly, so clean the walls before you start painting. Make sure to get rid of any hand prints or dirt. Sand any glossy areas to avoid streaks.
2. Select the paint. There are tons of great choices on the market. Some stores even offer trial sizes so that you can test the paint before you buy it to see how it looks in your home. Higher sheen paints are typically more durable and best suited to high traffic areas. Stain or lower lustre finishes offer more warmth and depth.
3. Don't go cheap. Even though it's always tempting to save some money, it's not usually worth it with paint. Painting can make a huge impression, so you want the quality to show.
4. Choose the right tools. If you use a roller, pick the correct length for proper coverage. Use synthetic materials, made from nylon or polyester, to apply latex or water based paint. Always buy high quality brushes, they typically cover better and are less likely to leave brush "hairs" behind.
